The Artisans Haven, a digital mall set up at the height of the Movement Control Order period for local entrepreneurs, creators and emerging businesses, is set to make waves with their latest handmade creations. Many business owners are being thrust onto digital platforms due to physical limitations brought about by the pandemic. The Artisans Haven has cultivated a supported environment for people to hone their online marketing skills.
Support local businesses at The Artisans Haven where you will find exquisite and affordable products and handicrafts such as handmade masks, handbags, clutchbags, scarves and twillies for bags by GoCHeeKS, or designer jewellery by award winning designer Tina Winness and diamond jewellery of the Grafiti Angel range.
You will also find top quality paper stationery at Vive; magic frames and creative wood products by Asian Esteem; scented candles from Candle Pit Stop, exclusive phone covers from Bling Bling Paradise, and so much more.
At Grafiti Angel, more fancy shaped diamonds will be coming up next year, as seasonal and young buyers increasingly favour different shapes of diamonds.
Drawing her inspiration from books with happy quotes and beautiful illustrations, Grafiti Angel founder Lilian Lo designs the jewellery herself, and passes the ideas to craftsmen at her factory in Hong Kong.
Her main business, Bludiamond, has been involved in wholesale manufacturing for the last 20 years, mainly supplying to jewellery shops in Malaysia and Singapore.
GoCHeeKS is launching, among others, Chinese New Year angpow bag wristlets and a patchwork LEDenim silksatin crystals clutch 2021 series.
For Mother’s Day next year, GoCHeeKS founder Chee Li Har is already planning on reusable carry bags which will use the GoCHeeKS art prints either as patchwork pockets or sling handles.
Chee will also introduce patch-a-bling random pocket t-shirts, in the second quarter of next year.
Retired from her day-to-day banking job, painter artist Chee is currently an independent, non-executive director in AmInvestment Bank and chairman for the AMIslamic Funds management board..
Her foray into the world of art had started as a stress management tool but as artwork collectors started asking for art that they could wear, the GoCHeeKS product range was born.
Tina Winness will be introducing a mask pendant necklace based on the masquerade mask tradition that was prevalent in medieval Italy.
“While masks were ornate and designed to hide the wearer’s identity, we do wear figurative masks every day,’’ said Winness, who had hit on this idea during her trip for her award ceremony in Italy.
Winness had won the Iron A’Design award 2019 in Italy for her tribute wau pendant set in gold, sapphires and diamonds with a nephrite jade center.
After having developed 20 types of scents, Candle Pit Stop founder Julia Jules Wan feels it is time to reach out to those who are not only candle lovers.
“Our new products include highly scented soy wax melts, as a choice for customers who prefer flameless candles,’’ said Jules, a former aircraft engineer.
These soy wax melts come in cubes without wicks, and are formulated inhouse; they are able to hold a higher concentration of fragrance.
The existing line of candles will also be expanded to include double wicks, which provides double the scent, potentially in a very big space, while looking luxurious when lit up.
As an aircraft engineer, Jules was nowhere near any of these sweet smelling scents.
During her travels with her husband as an expatriate to East Asian countries, various scents had evoked memories of the smells of herbs and flowers in her parents’ garden.
It was then that she started dabbling again in scent-making.
Vive invites customers to be ‘mesmerised’ by its new range of planners, notebooks and journals.
Their evergreen, heritage batik series of planners will be refreshed with new batik or cultural motifs.
Vive’s latest Radiant Malaysia wrappers come in flora and flavoured motifs, with multi-cultural heritage influences.
For the fourth series of the Creation Haven notebooks, customers can select their own book covers, or add a personalized name on the covers.
While helping her husband in his printing business, Vive founder Chong Foong Yin had wanted to create her own special product and brand, that is, Vive that we see today.
Hobbies that have grown into businesses include that of Sweet House Bakery where founder Jescar Yu was initially making cakes for her three children and enjoyed it so much that she started a home business, baking after hours.
Fascinated by the intricacy of batik making, husband and wife Shariff Mohamad Noor and wife Erna Idayu have launched a successful fashion line ‘lovebyerna,’ featuring modern designs using traditional fabric.
New colours at lovebyerna will be towards the pastel, floral and abstract range, mainly on premium cotton or rayon and armani silk.
Minimalist neutral tones, clean lines and monochrome colourways are in for 2021.
“After the ups and downs of 2020, we could use with a little simplicity,’’ said co-founder Shariff.
Designed by Erna herself, these fashions are handmade and produced in Indonesia; lovebyerna’s new collection features, among others, a two-piece knee length dress with a long avaya outer, that presents an elegant silhouette.
With the aim of further helping these worthy artisans, founders Jade Lee and Rosalie Lin, have plans for more features, promotions and partnerships to make the hub an even greater success.
From 30 artisans in May when the idea of setting up this digital mall was first mooted, the online tenancy has grown by 230% to 100.
